IT Site Support / PC Technician

The IT Site Support / PC Technician's role is to support and maintain in-house computer systems, and peripherals. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal workstation performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training and assistance where required.
Essential Duties//Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
Work with end users to identify and deliver required PC service levels.
Provide training and support to end users and staff on computer operation and other issues.
Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, software, networked peripheral devices, and networked hardware and software products.
Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex PC problems for a variety of end users, and recommend and implement corrective hardware and software solutions, including coordination of on-site warranty repair or off-site repair, as needed.
Assist in maintaining an inventory of all PCs, monitors, printers, scanners, and other peripheral equipment and work in conjunction with the Property team to ensure inventory accuracy.
Assist in monitoring and testing PCs and maintaining procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically assessing PC performance.
Assist the network and server management team with infrastructure equipment, as necessary.
Accurately document in trouble-ticketing system all services performed, both user support and inventory - related activity, immediately after the action is taken.
Prepare new and re-imaged PCs for local and remote users.
Monitor and address PC replacement needs according to expected usage cycle of PCs in coordination with management and Purchasing department.
Provide receiving and shipment of computer equipment and work cooperatively with others providing that service.
Maintain organized shipping, receiving, and computer setup area.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hardware and equipment contracts and supervise contract - based installations.
Participate in Helpdesk services activities as needed.
Perform all duties in a professional manner. All communications and interactions with the user community, co-workers, and management must be respectful, thorough, and conducive to outstanding customer service.
Associate’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
Demonstrated technical knowledge of network and PC hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal workstation performance. The person will also troubles problem areas related to hardware and software in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training and assistance where required.
Familiarity with troubleshooting, maintaining, and configuring desktops, PCs, Laptops, Microsoft Windows operating systems, Office suite of products, and current network protocols.
Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.
Ability to conduct research into PC issues and products with guidance as required from more senior technicians and management.
Demonstrated, hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience.
Ability to operate tools, computer hardware components, and peripheral accessories.
Self-motivated and directed with a keen attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Strong customer-service orientation and effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills..
Possesses strong ability to effectively collaborate and contribute to a cross-functional team with other network & system administrators, software engineers, data managers, and other technical & non-technical staff.
Must be able to work together and communicate maturely and professionally with co-workers and federal customers.
Must be capable of providing professional written and verbal communications.
Must be trustworthy and maintain confidentiality concerning work processes and functionality when needed.
The ability to work limited nights and weekends as required.
Must be willing to travel on an as needed basis to alternate sites to support systems operations, maintenance, and deployment. (<25% travel)
Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearance requirements, US citizenship is required.
Experience working with US Department of Energy or other US federal agency.
Experience with federal cyber security policies and standards and how they affect IT configurations and operations.
Preferred knowledge of Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI).
Preferred: certifications such as CompTIA A+, 900 series, Network +, or Security +, Test Out PC Pro, and Dell Certified PC Technician are highly preferred.
Experience with McAfee, Symantec, and Entrust technologies is preferred with associated certifications desirable.
